Happy Sunday,
As I look back over this year, I started with a vision, knowing that God’s plans are so much bigger than ours. So I finally got around to finishing my vision board and realized that I was already living in answered prayers, even if some of those prayers are still living in my prayer jar, waiting to be answered. My vision for 2026, as I turned 33, was to prioritize myself, enjoy solitude, mind my business, and, each day, no matter the circumstances, love where my feet are planted. I’ve had time to focus on my finances, write more, and, in doing all these things and more, there are so many moments that I have loved. I feel like I am at a turning point, reclaiming the ease that I started this year with.
I had an apartment warming that I absolutely loved. I have been able to catch up with some of my out-of-town besties, and when my time on Lioness ended, I got to work a few days on the upcoming show called Frisco King, and on a contract that I was referred to by my colleague with Visa x FIFA while they were in Dallas. I am so happy to announce that I am a proud member of the Girls Write Now mentoring program, and I have two new baby Bisons who are part of my life and are officially Howard students.
With only four months left in the year, it’s so easy to feel rushed, but the slower I have been going, the closer to the life I want to live I feel. I am excited for this decade and how relaxing I want it to be, how at peace I want to spend my days, and a question that I love on my vision board is, How would I want to spend my perfect day? I have so many versions of my perfect day. They always include watching the sun come up from beautiful tall windows, prayer, meditation, massages, my new favorite obsession, Solidcore Pilates, gentle yoga, genuine love and connection, celebrations, champagne, dinner by the beach or on a yacht, trips I don’t have to plan, getting my hair and nails done, shopping, being in rooms with people I have always looked up to, producing my own TV shows and movies. The list goes on.
My perfect day always involves being unapologetically me. My perfect day requires healthy connections, learning something new, and growing every day. Also, my perfect day requires carbs, because you can never have too much pasta or wine. My perfect day is whimsical, trusting God to bless me with miracles and great connections. Now that we have so much access to so many people, it’s important to remember what our perfect days look like, to look within and ask yourself, What makes me happy right now? What feels healthy? What do I desire? How do I want to spend my lifetime of wonderful Sundays?
I hope you enjoyed the past few months and that we end August giving our blessings room to breathe. I am a planner, so although I am spontaneous and love to go with the flow, I love a list. I love being able to keep up with my rituals and habits. But, to be honest, we need more time without the pressure of watching everything unfold. We need more time to just live, to embrace our perfect days without feeling like we have to rush toward the next thing. These perfect days will turn into perfect years, perfect decades. I am a dreamer. I have had a vision since I was a little girl, writing scripts and making my cousins perform, imagining where I would live and who I would spend my life with. Sometimes I have to remind that little girl. Sometimes I have to remind myself. Sometimes I have to remind that little Abeni that the dream is not taking longer, but that God is reminding me to slow down because I have time, even when it feels like I don’t. The first thing to do is show up in the first place. I think we’ve all been there where we want to skip to the good part. But in between, we can still smile, take more pictures, and live our best life.
Once we’re done with the perfect day, we need to sleep in perfect peace so that God can write a new chapter. That’s why it’s called sleepy peace, starting over and over again. So much can happen this week, so much can happen next month, so much can happen in a year when we loosen our grip and enjoy life. I’m excited to see this year continue, even on the days we want to skip to the part that’s on our vision board. We can’t skip it, so why not move through each day with ease, trusting that God can show us how good it can get? Let’s live our best, biggest, boldest life that we could ever imagine.
