A Summer of Ease: Softness Over Performance Retreat in Dallas
This is your invitation to romanticize the middle.
Happy Sunday,
Lately, it’s been fun reading old newsletters and thinking about how far Sunday Forever has come; it’s nostalgic. Even so, there are times I wonder if I’m doing it right. When is the right time to invest in a passion that’s self-funded?
This is the quietest I’ve been with Sunday Forever. As I mentioned, stillness is hard because I am still working behind the scenes to make the next season of stories, interviews, and purpose even stronger. I had hoped Sunday Forever might be a coffee table book by now, but I’m learning to trust that everything happens in divine timing.
It means so much that you’re still reading, invested, and enjoying these gems popping back into your inbox.
I can say I’ve made many fruitful connections in my life. Through Sunday Forever, I have met many people in the community I’m building, and then there are the brands that have believed in the work, making the load much easier. God is the promise, so I know that the possibilities are endless.
Promises wouldn’t be complete without us waking each morning. Even though there are complex, slow parts in the middle, there is serenity if we allow ourselves the grace to keep growing.
I once asked a friend how I could support her, and she said, “By being the best me.” Being our best selves is a simple declaration of love. We’re expected to perform daily, but we need communities and environments where performance is not welcome. We need people, places, and things to go to when we need rest.
The bed is that soft space for me. So is journaling, walking, genuine connections, Church, Oak Cliff Pilates, the beach, and more! And who says the “E” in wine can’t stand for ease? These places and people feel calm. We feel in harmony with how full we are when we’re in the presence of love.
Sunday Forever events are a safe and welcoming space. A place for men and women to be lovers, to be surprised, and at times leave behind exhaustion. Or to be a constant reminder of joy. It’s a place to celebrate yourselves and to romanticize the middle.
We’re back with another Sunday Forever Retreat, “The Softness Over Performance Retreat,” taking place June 21st at Aura House, a special Black-owned yoga studio. We’ll write, meditate, have a sound bath, enjoy food from one of our amazing sponsors at Packin Bowls (who also sponsored the last event), and curate self-care vision boards inspired by new night and morning rituals to help us get through summer. It’s nice to see that there are people who don’t think they are writers, but they still show up and write.
It’s been since last September that I partnered with fantastic brands, including Curious Elixirs, providing non-alcoholic beverages, and Oak Cliff Pilates, offering four raffles. I’m so happy to share that we sold four tickets! To be honest, I’ve only shared the event through email. It shows the power of Sunday Forever’s growth and highlights the need to keep investing in ourselves.
I thank God for empowering me to keep going, and I thank Him that you continue to show up. One day, not only will we be the best-selling series on your coffee table, but my nonprofit will help the community on a larger scale.
Summer inspires playfulness and pivots. We’re saying goodbye to things that didn’t work out and hello to the unknown.
I love Romans 12:16:
"Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position. Do not be conceited."
To live at peace with everyone, we first have to have peace with ourselves. Some days that feels impossible, but God never forgets His promises, and He never runs out of surprises when we trust Him.
I love that we have an end goal, but right now our mission is to appreciate the necessary middle.
Here’s to not over-explaining and trusting God to help us live our best lives, in environments where we thrive, not just survive.
Happy Sunday, I hope you had a great day. You deserve great days. I pray you get the most out of this June.
