Birds of Paradise
"Let me wear the day well so when it reaches you, you will enjoy it." - Sonia Sanchez
One morning I woke up, and my Birds of Paradise plant wasn't as sturdy. I remember the day it arrived at home, and I wondered how to keep this large plant afloat. It has been a year since then, and it's safe to say that I have given it enough nutrition and sunlight so that it has grown. But I noticed two of the leaves were turning different colors, so I moved my plant to a place where its body was more supported. It was time for a change.
Where has the time gone?
Last summer, the roots started spreading. A new life began coming in and required new territory to thrive in the brand-new season. A lot had changed, so naturally. So I grabbed the tools needed to cut off those loose, tired roots and watered my plant.
I believe water is patient with us, charming and beautiful. Water nourishes us like the sun does every morning when it invites us to a new day. Quietly. Still. Wonderful. Just like our mothers, water is life. There are no words to describe a mother's love—the fullness or sacrifice of it all.
Where has the time gone?
How fast the day will come with errands, chores, assignments. When my mother visited me, she bought me a new couch and later that day we went to the beach. I loved watching her bask in the sun. Her smile. Her laugh. The playfulness of it all. She appreciated the tenderness of the sun.
I thought to myself, what if this is what God wants for us. To bask in the sun and be peaceful.
Happy Sunday!! I hope you will enjoy these letters of love, Flavor of Fox's appetizing stuffed salmon, and Cay's refreshing Cucumber Gimlet. See you on a Sunday in June.
