Losing someone you loved so deeply and so fiercely is life-changing. It challenges your faith, causes you to slow down, become even more intimate, and present with all you have. One moment I was reflecting on this last decade, seeing it all. Ready for the new year, and then we lost you, I knew once again that I would have to carry you with me, someone I never wanted to live without.
A couple of moments since you passed, I have smiled. Thanks to simple moments, the life we spoke into each other, and the patience of family and close friends. I still wish I could hear your voice; for now, I am grateful for the memories of you.
I don't know what the future Sundays hold. But that's why I love tomorrow. One thing is for sure: We are divine women who know how to stretch towards God in nature, becoming one with him even in storms. We allow the strong winds to provide strength.
This morning, Shanelle, I picture you at peace on one of your favorite beaches. In the form of a remarkable palm tree soaring over the ocean. As each wave draws toward you, reminding you that you are one of one: my bestest friend for life.
