Summer has arrived—this is the season of warmth, wonder, and stillness.
A love letter to this season and an invitation to tomorrow’s Sunday Forever retreat in Dallas.
We were born lovers, made to love and be loved. God finds infinite ways to love and appreciate us, and I believe He uses our inner love, people, and nature to help us romanticize our lives, to make the every day feel sacred and sweet, like something worth remembering.
Even though we're busy—working, earning, showing up—I think we'd be surprised to know that God wants us to stay peaceful, happy, and radiant like we are on a float in the middle of the water, full of joy and surrender. As Nikki Giovanni once wrote, the clock is ticking around us 60 times an hour, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. And then, there are times we finally sit down and are still. We dream. We get lost in the book. Or, if you're like me, you write.
My mission with Sunday Forever is to show all of us that we are writers. To remind everyone that we are storytellers. Writing can be therapy because when you write, you're not searching for perfection. You're learning more about yourself. And only a fool thinks he knows it all; the rest of us are constantly evolving, writing new chapters every day. I believe life should be remembered through pictures, writing, or whatever helps us say: I was here.
One of my favorite ways to relax is by reading a romance novel. I'm currently reading Great Big Beautiful Life by Emily Henry. We deserve more stories. More significant moments that take our breath away. In this book, the character Hayden tells Alice, "You're doing it again." She says, "Doing what?" He says, "Smiling like we've walked into a surprise birthday." He says that "when almost nothing is happening."
I wish you more moments where you are doing it again—smiling, falling in love, and trusting that God will show you how good it can get, simply by existing.
When you write a good story, you give yourself the space to create one moment in your life that takes your breath away. There are already enough moments that leave us disappointed, and it takes time to forgive those. Writing helps us move forward, not by forgetting, but by adapting.
I love starting over, so here we are. Today is the first day of the summer solstice. A blank page. I hope that you get caught smiling when almost nothing is happening. I hope you find some time to write this weekend. You are your ancestors' wildest dreams.
If you're in Dallas, I’d love for you to be there at tomorrow’s retreat tomorrow's retreat. I can't wait to share it with you. We are creating a sanctuary wherever we go, and planting the seeds for a lifetime of wonderful Sundays.
P.S. Here are some photos from a dreamy beach day I hosted, a little reminder of what it feels like to gather with love.
