You
May your March be rich with ease, growth and gentle moments.
One of my favorite rituals for my weekday is a gentle yoga class that focuses on deep stretching, breathwork, and kindness to your body. It’s a relaxing way to ease the mind, hold poses that help reduce stress, and it has a lower impact than your typical yoga class.
In yoga, I love how the instructor calls uncomfortable positions a “sensation.” Even then, your body may resist the urge to be still and want to return to what feels normal, but naming it this way invites gentle awareness. But we must create space for our minds, for words that empower us, and for our hearts to always be open and gentle toward the person who does all the heavy lifting.
When I first took a gentle stretch or restorative Pilates class, I noticed I had to slow my thoughts to match the energy of the room. When we sign up for these classes, it’s not so that we can wear our cute sets; it’s so we can romanticize the process of learning what our bodies need.
And when we feel amazing, we can access more of what we already have. I love how, as we grow through different seasons of life, we start finding ways to make life easier for ourselves. A lot of that starts with our thoughts. Even in seasons when we feel like we are doing terribly, we are still the sun, and we are still doing amazing. Stretching has taught me that. Stretching has taught me that going deeper is the fun part.
This year, I am committed to seeing more beauty and feeling more ease. I’m excited about spending more time with God, taking more pictures, and enjoying new poses. There’s a lot of chaos in the world, but there is also a world full of possibilities — a world full of opportunities that will stretch us, give us joy, and give us release.
It’s March, a brand-new month, a blank page. I’m looking forward to appreciating all the big and small things, making time to honor my body, and choosing softness over performance.
In a world that praises multitasking and overcommitting yourself, what is the one thing you need for March to feel whole? What is missing? What is one thing you can focus on?
I’ve been doing these weekly brain dumps, and they help me remember that we will always have a running list. But thank God we can put those thoughts down on paper, and when the time is right, we’ll be able to bring them to fruition. In the same way we obsess over our lists, it’s time to obsess over the woman who is stretching, growing, and giving.
Our birthdays come and go, and none of us runs out of moments that take our breath away. But as we enter another month, we have another chance to release what we’ve been carrying, another moment to surrender, and another moment to enjoy who we are while we are becoming.
